Ornamental Illnesses

…in which I attempt to write in an amusing fashion, look at shiny things both past and present, and not lose it. Again.

If you’re in Austin and are not doing this, you’re not in Austin…

Saying you’ve been to Austin when you’ve only been to SXSW, is like saying you’ve been to Florida… but you’ve only been to Disney World.  And real BBQ doesn’t come from a food truck.

About…

ORNAMENTAL ILLNESSES is a writing blog with three aims:

• To hone my craft. If you're gonna go around and call yourself a writer, you should write. You should also know when to stop writing. Having a blog forces me to declare something "finished" enough.
• To process my struggle with long term mental illness. Right now I'm concerned with my recovery and awakening from decades of over-medication. (I'm not interested in debates over the efficacy of psych meds; I only know my story.)
• Receive external validation. How else am I supposed to know how I feel unless I see those little red notification numbers change?
